Our thoughts and knowledge on all things Internet

A little keyword research goes a long way

It's always surprising how keyword research can throw up strange results that completely challenge your assumptions on the phrases internet users search on.

For example I've just been doing some keyword research for some projects of our own, in the areas of E-Commerce and Copywriting. However this could be the last time I write these two phrases like that, because of the results I found...

Copywriting Keyword Analysis:

Despite my previous assumptions, it turns out that hardly anyone writes copywriting as one word, as I always have. Taking the phrase copywriter as an example, Google tells me about 776,000 searches for 'Copywriter', but an incredible 14,900,000 searches for the phrase 'copy writer'.

E-Commerce Keyword Analysis:

The same happens for E-commerce, which I have always written as e-commerce. However a different keyword research tool we use tells me that there were 2,108,083 searches for 'e-commerce' in the last month, less than half the 4,722,786 searches for 'ecommerce'. And as for 'e commerce', there were just 1,069,935 searches.

Suffice it to say, the results of this quick analysis can have pretty major implications for web site design, content, headings, link structure, back links, and even PPC advertising.

Client News – Sales pick up at Pickupcity.biz thanks to Google Adwords

Google Adwords are generating positive results for PickUpCity.biz, a specialist car dealer specialising in pick up trucks.

The UK pick up truck market is currently enjoying double digit growth, and so there’s great online potential for vehicles like the Ford Ranger and Nissan Navarra. After recently investing in a new web site our client wanted to start driving more traffic using Pay Per Click advertising, so came to Evolution Internet.

We recommended starting with a Google Adwords Set Up package and have created a series of Campaigns for each of the pick up truck brands sold by PickUpCity, as well as for search clusters around other terms based ‘used pick up trucks’, and ‘pick up truck accessories’.

Initial results have been very encouraging. The Adwords campaigns have achieved over 20% Click Through Rates at a modest CPC, and Andy Alderson of PickUpCity reports seeing “very positive results” in terms of sales from the surge in new online leads.

Client News – Evolution Internet gives hydraulics firm an online push

Evolution Internet are pleased to have started work for M & R Hydraulics, a specialist hydraulics supplier in the North West. We are handling monthly search engine optimisation for the existing web site, www.mrhydraulics.co.uk, and setting up a new Google Adwords campaign.

Because M & R Hydraulics provide a wide range of services including hydraulics components, repair and installation, we have prepared a bespoke Google Adwords Setup Package and will then be providing a free 30 day trial of our Google Adwords Management service.

Initial efforts look promising; because of the highly specific nature of the services provided, there is limited Adwords competition so CPC’s and Daily Budgets seem competitive. Our search engine team have rebuilt and optimised the existing site, and expect significant improvements in search engine ranking to follow.
