Our thoughts and knowledge on all things Internet

A little keyword research goes a long way

It's always surprising how keyword research can throw up strange results that completely challenge your assumptions on the phrases internet users search on.

For example I've just been doing some keyword research for some projects of our own, in the areas of E-Commerce and Copywriting. However this could be the last time I write these two phrases like that, because of the results I found...

Copywriting Keyword Analysis:

Despite my previous assumptions, it turns out that hardly anyone writes copywriting as one word, as I always have. Taking the phrase copywriter as an example, Google tells me about 776,000 searches for 'Copywriter', but an incredible 14,900,000 searches for the phrase 'copy writer'.

E-Commerce Keyword Analysis:

The same happens for E-commerce, which I have always written as e-commerce. However a different keyword research tool we use tells me that there were 2,108,083 searches for 'e-commerce' in the last month, less than half the 4,722,786 searches for 'ecommerce'. And as for 'e commerce', there were just 1,069,935 searches.

Suffice it to say, the results of this quick analysis can have pretty major implications for web site design, content, headings, link structure, back links, and even PPC advertising.

Google MySpace deal looks inviting for PPC advertisers

The news that Google has done a $900 million deal to run AdWords on News Corp interactive sites including Myspace.com caught my eye today, partly because I’ve been monitoring the potential value of MySpace to our clients for a while now.

So why is the Google/MySpace deal important?

Reason 1: PPC advertising on MySpace could help you reach a sizeable market.

MySpace is big. It’s supposed to be the fourth most popular English-language Website on the planet, with nearly 100 million registered users.

According to a recent search I did on MySpace, there are an incredible 605 MySpace members within just 5 miles of our office in rural Kent (any clients who’ve visited our office before will know just how rural we are!).

Reason 2: PPC advertising on MySpace will help you target the youth market.

Further analysis of our 605 neighbours shows that nearly 56% are aged between 18-21, and an amazing 75% are aged between 18-25. This means an Adwords PPC campaign on the Content Network, site-targeted to MySpace, could be really lucrative for youth related products and services like fashion, music, leisure and so on.

It’ll be interesting to see what other Fox Interactive Media sites get Googled in the future such as…..

Are the Royal Mail's changes going to affect you online shop?

Royal Mail could seriously affect E-commerce software

If you didn't already know Royal Mail are about to change their pricing structure for sending letters and small packages. From the 21 August prices are going to based on size as well as weight.

These changes for the most part are only going to affect companies using normal Royal Mail serives and selling products under 750g. It will not affect those using Special Delivery, there are actually only 20% of products involved in the change.

Aparently Royal Mail's new pricing structure will save money, although there may be addition costs to ensure online shops can calculate the correct prices.

Can your E-commerce Software handle these new pricing structures?

If you need help modifing your e-commerce software to calculate your delivery costs please give us a call free on 0800 0789 132.
